A piano melody that begins like an opening sentence

From the initial album concept surrounding the song's inception to the present day, where it is performed and arranged anew years later.

The story of a single piece does not end the moment the notes first ring out. It acquires a name, joins other tracks to form an album, and—as time passes—is performed again and expanded into new arrangements. Following the markings on the current working score... Prelude No. 1...we trace the layers of time, unfolding them one by one.

Prelude, 2006 draft and working files

The draft was recorded in 2006 and initially released as a mobile ringtone several years before the album's actual release.

"Prelude" as found in the preserved handwritten score

On the first pages of the two handwritten score sheets discovered on the drive, Preludethe title and the date "February 23, 2009" are handwritten. The notes, dynamic markings, and connecting lines on the staff lines document the shaping of the musical ideas and performance flow prior to the song's release. The second page is a continuation of the first.

This manuscript bears the song title used at the time: Prelude. The handwritten manuscript represents a musical record created after the 2006 audio draft; together, these two points in time illustrate the song's development process. The connection to today's page title, Prelude No. 1, continues through the subsequent release records and the musical score.

The first piano album created to preserve the music

The proposal for the first piano album lists the title PreludeIt also records the goal of creating music to be shared with family and close acquaintances—music that would be long remembered. The plan at the time envisioned a cohesive flow encompassing not just the music, but also visuals, storytelling, and promotion via blogs and Facebook.

This document is a record of the planning for the first album. It does not explain the specific circumstances Prelude No. 1or the inspiration behind the composition of the track at that time. Therefore, rather than focusing on personal history, this is viewed here as the starting point of an effort to release a piece of music into the world, accompanied by an album and a story.

Re-recording an old piece with a new performance

A full-length piano album released twelve years later Left Behindin Preludereturns as the ninth track. The album description notes that eleven tracks from previous digital singles were newly arranged, performed, and recorded. Therefore, rather than simply transferring the old audio, it is more accurate to view this inclusion as a version where the same piece was re-recorded with a contemporary performance.

“Una composición preciosa y muy emotiva. La interpretación es excelente, con mucho sentimiento y una dinámica excelente. El sonido del piano es muy dulce y suave. La pieza está bien estructurada y en conjunto es capaz de contar una historia con su principio, final, y parte intermedia. El sonido se mantiene constante todo el tiempo, sin picos de volumen molestos; y las variaciones de ritmo y melodía a lo largo de la pieza, especialmente al final, la hacen muy amena y original. ”

A beautiful and deeply moving piece. The performance is excellent, filled with rich emotion and superb dynamics. The piano tone is incredibly sweet and mellow. The composition is well-structured; the beginning, middle, and end come together to tell a cohesive story. The sound remains consistent throughout, with no jarring volume spikes. The shifts in rhythm and melody—especially the changes in the final section—make the piece feel truly engaging and original.

“Some dramatic playing in this piano piece. Good variety with the atmosphere with contrast in harmony, tonality and style of playing throughout. Your melodic style is similar to arpeggios and you took us through a journey through some major but also minor chord progressions, almost like telling a story. You switched to this up around halfway through and increased the tempo for suspense - you also reached the higher pitches to make full use of the piano. Well done!”

This piano piece features a dramatic performance. The atmosphere varies throughout, with effective contrasts in harmony, tonality, and playing style. The melody flows like an arpeggio, weaving between major and minor chord progressions as if telling a story. Around the midpoint, the mood shifts; the tempo increases to build suspense, and the piece makes effective use of the piano's upper register. A wonderful listen!

A closer look at the score

In 4/4 with the slow pace of Adagio, continuous sixteenth-note arpeggios in the right hand lead the flow. The high-register opening leaves the left hand silent before bass notes join, and the dynamics grow from p to mp and mf. The opening pattern returns near the end, closing quietly with rit. and pp.
