When I Was a Little Child
A healing piano piece by composer Lee Sang Gul that magically evokes happy memories
Happy Childhood Memories.
Although I am currently weighed down by the burdens of life, I can smile when I occasionally recall my happy childhood.
“When I was a little child” is a piano piece that evokes gentle memories of childhood.

A closer look at the score
Written in 4/4 time at an *Andante* tempo, the right-hand melody moves in gentle arcs over sustained chords in the left hand. The addition of Ddim and Fm to the soft hues of C9 and FM7 introduces subtle variations to the familiar melody. In the subsequent section, the left hand shifts to eighth-note arpeggios, adding a sense of flow to the recurring theme.
In the middle section, the texture becomes denser as the melody incorporates double stops and sixteenth-note figures. After building from *mp* to *mf* and *f*, the initial theme returns; the piece concludes by slowing down and softening—marked by *rit.* and a *decrescendo*—before coming to rest on a Cadd2 chord.
