“What do I have to offer others?”

Lee Sang Gul’s music began with that question. He had no formal musical education, but he could not let the melodies in his mind fade away. For years, while working to earn a living, he taught himself composition and practiced the piano. Through unfinished pieces and countless attempts, he slowly learned to give those melodies a voice.

There were times when he struggled to find a reason to continue making music. He felt that the pieces he had worked so hard to create reached no one, and even questioned their value. Then listeners he had never met shared their feelings about his music. Knowing that people were waiting for and enjoying his melodies rekindled his fading hope.

Today, Lee writes with the hope of creating piano works that will remain with people long after they first hear them. He dreams of a life in which he can continue composing and of preserving his music for future listeners and his family.

The answer to his first question has become clear: what he can offer is music that carries comfort and hope across time and distance.
