The story behind the piece

A piano piece that brings happiness, like a rainbow

A piano piece by composer Lee Sang Gul that celebrates life's small yet precious moments of happiness.

Happy and precious moments. Yet, why do happy times feel so fleeting? Time slips away, and I grow anxious, wondering if this moment will ever return.

Yet, as the moment approaches, I feel excitement and happiness—only to be seized by the fear that this happiness might vanish. It is a recurring cycle, yet I know that one day it will fade away. After all, everything comes to an end...

“Good work on this beautiful and light sounding piano piece. There were a lot of graceful melodies that retained some of the original idea you were going for - for example when there was some key/chord changes. The harmony and tonality you chose in the left hand was outstanding, I loved the chord progressions and the way you played these notes were cool to listen to. I also appreciate the variety in dynamics and intensity of the keys so that the whole piece didn't stay on the same level. Great work!”

You have composed a beautiful piano piece with a light, lovely timbre. There were many elegant melodies that maintained the initial idea even as the key or chords shifted. The harmonies and keys chosen for the left hand were particularly impressive. I liked the chord progressions and the way the notes were played. It was also great to see variety in dynamics and touch—ensuring the piece didn't stay at a single level throughout. A wonderful composition!

“En general me ha gustado bastante esta melodía. Aprecio los cambios de tonalidad, lo que la hace muy amena y original. Hay ciertos puntos que no me han convencido del todo, como la brusca subida de volumen en el segundo 00.51, que debo reconocer que molesta un poco cuando escuchas con auriculares. Lo mismo me paso en el minuto 1.06. Pero por lo demás, me gustó el ritmo y la estructura de la composición y también la calidad del audio”

Overall, I really liked this melody. The key changes make the piece very enjoyable and original. However, there were parts I didn't quite like. I have to admit that the sudden increase in volume at the 51-second mark was a bit jarring when listening on headphones. I felt the same way at the 1-minute-6-second mark. Aside from that, I liked the rhythm, structure, and sound quality of the piece.

“Aww, this is such a sweet song. I love the chromaticism sprinkled in without it being overwhelming. The lower notes at 1:05 feel a little out of place, maybe bringing them up an octave would help? Overall, really cute song. Keep making music!”

Oh, what a lovely piece. I like how the chromatic movements are incorporated throughout without being overdone. The low notes at the 1-minute-5-second mark feel a bit out of place; perhaps raising them an octave would help? Overall, it’s a really charming piece. Please keep making music!

“Me gusta mucho el timbre del piano y la producción es muy buena. Composición original, armónicamente es original y arriesgada, pero sin duda funciona. Buena interpretación, orgánica y con buen rango de matices.”

I really like the piano tone, and the production is excellent. It is an original composition. Harmonically, it is inventive and bold, yet it works perfectly. It is a fine performance—natural and full of expressive range.

A closer look at the score

Beginning in *Allegro* and 4/4 time, the right hand alternates between short melodic phrases and sustained notes, while the left hand supports the flow with steady, even accompaniment. Amidst the bright resonance of the Cmaj9 chord, the harmonic color shifts with the introduction of E7, an A♭ augmented chord, and an F♯ half-diminished 7th chord.

In the latter section, the key signature changes to two sharps, and the earlier melody continues within the realm of D major. The technique of maintaining a recurring melody while altering harmonies and keys creates diverse moods, much like the colors of a rainbow.

With a sequence of *mp*, *mf*, and *f* dynamics, along with crescendos and decrescendos, the same melody can be played with varying volume and weight. The piece concludes with a D major chord.
